Écharpe Amadeo de Souza Cardoso - Tributo
Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso was born on November 14, 1887 in Manhufe and died on October 25, 1918.
Belonging to the first generation of Portuguese modernist painters, Amadeo stands out for the exceptional quality of his work and for the dialogue he established with the world historical vanguards of the early twentieth century. His painting is openly articulated with movements such as cubism, futurism, and expressionism, reaching at many moments - and in a sustained manner - the top of his contemporary international art production.
Death at the age of 30 would dictate the abrupt end of a pictorial work in full maturity and of a promising international career, but still in a phase of affirmation. Amadeo would be long forgotten, both inside and, above all, outside Portugal. Only very recently has Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso begun his path towards historiographic recognition.
